I try to order machines with the amount of memory I want so it is under warranty and I don't have to open the case and install it. So now I'm confused. Especialy with the internet rescources at your fingertips. That's some good information - can you cite any references? Priscilla HP May 26, at 4:
And so far no one has said it quite as well as JAM. Caur May 26, at 2: A single-sided module is always single-rank. That wasn't so hard. Whenever possible, it is recommended to use dual-rank DIMMs in the system. If it is not then it is single.
RAM Performance Benchmark: Single-Channel vs. Dual-Channel - Does It Matter?
Then you told me to count from pin1 doh! Thus, this will leave him with 2 more memory slots for future expansion. So listen up once and for all: Indeed, your statement it appears that ranks have more to do with density and pricing than actual performance appears at odds with IBM's statement from the question, Dual-rank DIMMs offer better interleaving and hence better performance than single-rank DIMMs. Compman should certainly go for dual channel configuration 2 x 4 GB or 2 x 8 GB RAM which will occupy 2 memory slots out of 4 available. I gave you my answer which I believe to be correct:
Caur May 26, at 2: Lenovo 53, Followers - Follow Mentions Products. This discussion has been inactive for over a year.
My last question for the moment is how to do this if buying online or how to talk a store clerk into lettin' me do all this? The main idea behind memory ranking - to staff more memory into a single-slot module, decreasing the needed banks number. Double vs Single sided ram.
Otherwise, you might try this; Pins 33 and 45 on the board are used by double-sided memory, and can sometimes be an indicator as to whether a given module is single or double-sided. Join me to this group. The reason is because of the addressing scheme, which can extend the pages across ranks thereby making the pages effectively larger and therefore more page-hit cycles. Since the number of connector is limited.
To fit more memory with lower cost, they use two banks on a DIMM so they can use smaller chips to achieve same amount of memory. You also chose the name Big E Custom PC which sounds like it could be the name of a computer shop, so it would seem that you came here as an expert to set all of us straight. A rank must be 64 bits of data wide; on memory modules which support Error Correction Code ECC , the bit wide data area requires an 8-bit wide ECC area for a total width of 72 bits. In terms of performance, I'd refer to wikipedia: Opteplex maxes 4GB per slot 8GB total. This tradeoff between memory cost and capacity is important to consider when purchasing memory modules for Intel Lindenhurst-based servers.
AMD Ryzen – Single-Rank Versus Dual-Rank DDR4 Memory Performance
Rod-IT May 25, at 8: I don't think anyone questions that dual channel memory will outperform single channel. All you had to do was ask the question, not act the expert as you did in your original post. The performance difference between dual-channel and single is negligible and not worth any real hassle. Yeah I noticed that smaller size DDR3 are like vanishing or the price is going up. A single-sided module is always single-rank.
I don't claim to know everything, but just like all of you, I try to offer what I do know. Anybody can ask a question Anybody can answer The best answers are voted up and rise to the top. Skip, I can't believe we've been doing it wrong all these years! Yes No I don't know.
I'm almost thinking it would be cheaper to upgrade them myself. Since the number of connector is limited. Although dual rank DIMMs can be seen to perform better on some chipsets.
To settle the argument; Single sided ram has only one group of chips that the controller sees all at the same time. Same as with memory banking, the more modules ranks you install, the slower memory speed is allowed. These chips may be laid out on one or both sides of the stick, it doesn't matter. After seeing that I'm debating if I should update my desktop while I still can.
Re: 1x8GB or 2x4gb? Single or Dual Channel RAM? for Sleekbook 6
Net cannot verify the validity of the statements made on this site. It can be said that you exchange memory speed on memory volume. Always dual channel, I didn't know it was an option to not have dual or greater anymore. I've seen many poorly answered questions about single and double sided ram and frankly it's amazing that so many people are getting this wrong. Sign up using Facebook.
